2020-04-22 The Grand Challenges in Global Mental Health initiative was led by the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the Global Alliance for Chronic Disease, in partnership with the Wellcome Trust, the McLaughlin-Rotman Centre for Global Health, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The result was the establishment of the WHO Special Initiative for the Mental Health, covering the 5-year period 2019-2023. The goal of the Initiative is that 100 million more people have access to quality and affordable mental health care by 2023. The Initiative is to be implemented in 12 countries.
